I believe what gives our lives value and fulfillment is when our lives have a positive impact on the lives of others. This website is my attempt to do just that, and if I can bring a little entertainment using my love of photography and travel then all the better. A primary objective is to reach those who have different views than I do so my blogs will attempt to provide useful information about a variety of life impacting topics as well as entertaining travel and photography posts. My approach to faith and politics blogs will be respectful and civil toward those who may not agree me. For those who do agree with my views I ask for help in supporting my blog. Help can be in the form of your prayers, financial support, suggestions and promoting this website to others.
When it comes to providing financial information I will take advantage of my 10 years experience as a financial aid officer, my accounting and tax background, as well as many years in the financial services industry. My qualifications for faith and politics blogs come from many years of personal observations of human nature, a desire to research books and other resources about faith and politics, as well as my own personal life experiences. For example I know there is a God because of His intervention in my life as well as the testimonies of others who have experienced God's love and power. I have also examined evidence, evidence I will share that supports "truths" taught in the Bible. Politically I have become more conservative in my views (I was very liberal in my younger days as a college student) because I have seen how life really is as opposed to how I would like it to be. I have seen what brings out the best of people and seen what brings out the worst.
My experience and reason has taught me it is absurd to think we can separate our faith from politics because our faith defines who we are, what we do and what we believe. Following this logic if faith, whether it be in God or humanism, defines who we are then it is important to know what those who have influence over us believe, from politicians to the media elite, because their views will effect their approach to problem solving.
For example, if you believe as our founding fathers did that our basic rights come from God, then the role of government is to protect those rights. The emphasis would be to protect our personal liberty which would mean we would have a right to keep the fruits of our labor, to own property, and to be able to pursue our dreams and desires, especially our freedom to worship as we please. Everyone would be viewed in the eyes of God equally, which would mean we would all have an equal chance of success, but there would be no guarantee of equal outcomes as the outcome would depend on our personal efforts and skills. A system of checks and balances in our government would be critical in order to prevent the government from becoming all consuming and taking away our personal liberties. God fearing politicians would put an emphasis on integrity and accountability while humanists can justify deceit if they believe it is for the "common good" .
The common good is a key focus of political progressives and humanists. This may sound good on the surface but it is the justification for an all consuming government that determines what rights we have. The ends (or the common good) always justify any means with this type of government, and this could include imprisonment or even execution of anyone with opposing views, after all it would be for the common good! A humanistic approach to government would justify propaganda over truth telling if the government elite felt it was in your best interest. Security and equal outcomes become more important than liberty and equal opportunity.
You can read many history books to see how a God based or humanistic based government has worked. It seems like many of us have forgotten or ignored the lessons of history so I will use my blog to get readers to really think about issues and political philosophies that will impact our lives. I also want readers to think about evidence that points to the God of the Bible. In other words I would love to get you to think about things that really matter!
If you really don't care about any of what I have just written about for whatever reason, then I hope you at least get some enjoyment viewing my photos and reading my travel and photography blogs. Maybe you will at least be a little curious to read more!
